Twitter: Your Online Neighborhood Bar

Green Chartreuse at The Louisiana Bistro
I’m going to be posting a good bit about Twitter for two reasons. First because I believe it is an extremely important new form of social media. Second because it lends itself well to this blog’s nature.
You see the real bottom line is not the type of social media we use, it is the conversations we have using it. In that respect Twitter reminds me of a decent bar. Lot of conversation going on, from the base to the sublime, all occurring in the same way that we humans do when surrounded by a swirling mass of our fellows in a casual setting.
As someone who worked as a waiter for many years this analogy really appeals to me. A lot of the diplomatic skills I’ve used as a community manager came from years of waiting tables in New Orleans. This is particularly true when it comes to hostile commenters.
Think about it next time you are using your Twitter client du jour. Watch the ebb and flow of conversation and commentary. Now, while you soak in the ambiance of your virtual bar here is a cocktail recipe to use in taking off the inevitable season’s chill:
The Chocolate Kiss
- One cup freshly made hot chocolate
- one half ounce Chartreuse Liquor
- whipped cream
- shaved chocolate
Prepare your hot chocolate as normal. Stir in the Chartreuse. Add whipped cream, sprinkle with shaved chocolate. Enjoy, and if you drink and Tweet at least be entertaining!

Do you recommend any particular brand of chartreuse? More importantly, are you using yellow or green?
There is only one brand, its made in a single monastery in the French Alps.
For this the green, the yellow has a backnote that works better with juices.
If you’re feeling decadent you can use the Green VEP, http://www.chartreuse.fr/pa_vep_uk.htm , but you had better be using top of the line chocolate for your hot chocolate.
Thanks for stopping by, I miss your writing in the Sci Fi Channel Magazine. (and on the Healing Power of Obnoxiousness!)
Oh, trust me. The Czarina won’t allow anything but the best chocolate for her hot chocolate anyway. I’m not kidding when I say that she roasts and grinds her own xocolatl beans.
